Mark Qiu

LUQ LABS · California

One person. Two institutional exhibitions, three shipped iOS apps.

I build things that ship, and then keep working without me. That rules a lot out. I don’t take on projects that need a team I don’t have, I don’t hand over code I can’t explain, and I don’t use a CDN — every asset on this site is served from its own origin, which is part of why it loads inside mainland China.

What I do take on: iOS apps, 3D and WebGL exhibitions, and interactive presentations — from the first sketch through to the App Store listing or the live URL. Three of the apps below are my own products. The two exhibitions were commissioned. Both sit on this page at the same size, because that is how I think about them.

Lu Xun and Han Pictorial Art · 鲁迅和汉画

Online 3D exhibition · three.js · bilingual · 32 works · narrated tour · 2026

An exhibition built on Lu Xun’s own unfinished table of contents for a Han pictorial-stone catalogue he drew up but never printed — seven parts, fifteen fascicles. Nineteen rubbings fill the first three parts. The last four are left as empty walls, and that is how the exhibition ends. Sole organiser: the Lu Xun Cultural Foundation (鲁迅文化基金会).

Engagement

Terms of engagement

Scope
Agreed in writing before anything is built, in phases small enough that either of us can stop at the end of one.
Price
Fixed per phase, quoted after a first conversation. No hourly billing, no open-ended retainers.
Handover
You get the source, the assets, and a written explanation of how it works. Nothing depends on a service only I can log into.
If I am unavailable
Everything I build is plain, documented and self-hosted specifically so that another developer can pick it up without me. That is the answer to the real risk of hiring one person, and it is a build constraint, not a promise.
